Welcome

We are so blessed to welcome you to our wedding - August 30th & 31st, 2014.

The Bride

Wemi was born in Nigeria and lived there until her family moved to Canada when she was 10 years old. Wemi was excited and nervous to start a new adventure, make new friends and live in a great country. Wemi spent her first couple of years in Canada moving around with her family before they found a permanent city to call home in Brampton.

Wemi went to university at Wilfrid Laurier where she met great friends, made unforgettable memories, made mistakes and grew into the woman Dave fell in love with in 2012. Through her studies at Wilfrid Laurier, Wemi earned a double degree in Psychology and Communication Studies with an Option in Business Management. Along with a university degree, Wemi also earned a deep love and dedication for God and her walk with Christ became stronger. She is grateful for the various opportunities and blessings which God has placed in her life each and every day.

Wemi's strong relationship with her mom has helped her grow in spirituality and into a strong independent young woman, for which she is eternally grateful. Despite her strength and independence, Wemi knows that Dave is the perfect partner for her. Wemi is currently studying to earn her Master's degree while working at the company that brought them together as a Social Media Consultant and she can't wait to be married to the love of her life and starting a blessed family. God has been faithful.

The Groom

Dave was born into this world as the youngest of 4. His 2 brothers and sister took plenty of opportunities to torment their little brother, but that brewed a side of Dave that most have come to love. Through all the sibling rivalry, Dave has developed a comedic side that tends to put a smile on most people's faces.

Even though Dave grew up on a farm, he somehow found himself attending the University of Guelph for Computer Science. He had little reason to venture into the world of computers, other than - why not? After studying for what seemed like an eternity, Dave successfully graduated and found himself out in the workforce.

Dave has always had a strong work ethic and has enjoyed his career to this day. Luckily enough for him, it was his career that allowed him to meet his love, his darling, the woman of his dreams, his future wife - Wemi.

Though you may not believe it from his slim figure, Dave remains quite active. He loves playing all kinds of sports whenever the chance arises, but he's most fond of soccer. You can always count on Dave to take in a Leafs game, even though he's a rabid Pens fan; and though he'll always be there for his family, he knows his friends are the family you get to pick.

Being ever so greatful for the childhood he had, the opportunities he gained and the relationships that strengthened along the way, Dave is incredibly excited to welcome you all to the memorable occasion of his union with Wemi.

The Story

Dave and Wemi started working together in February 2012. Fireworks did not ignite immediately, but it is believed that a candle was lit to slowly simmer this building relationship. Just another day at the office in September, Wemi was complaining about the men in her life and how it was so hard to find a good man these days when in jumps Yuhiro Chavez, a mutual friend and co-worker, with the brilliant idea of suggesting a date.

After Wemi reluctantly accepted, the story began. On their first date, Dave picked Wemi up from her apartment in Kitchener, he knocked on the door like a gentleman (didn't send a text saying “I'm outside” like the kids nowadays). They went on their first date to Symposium, where Wemi realized that this goofy guy from work was great, easy to talk to and could be a great friend. Dave escorted her on night after night of sensitive, thoughtful and kind dates. Even still, Wemi didn't know that Dave had become so interested until he finally planted that first kiss. The spark ignited the flame of that slow burning candle into the roaring fire it is today.

They still learn more about each other and from each other every day. Their bond continues to grow and strengthen with the love and support of friends and family, until it can be ultimately solidified through the sanctity of marriage on August 31st, 2014

The Proposal

After many failed attempts at purchasing a ring (good ol' Canada with its ice storms, snow falls and flu season), Dave was finally able to get the ring of his dreams for Wemi... after 1-4 weeks processing. On the night of the proposal, New Year's Eve, Dave and Wemi had planned on going to church, but prior to that Dave needed to do some "prep" work. He snuck out to the porch - and so it began.

As he braved the frigid cold weather and readied a final surprise, he messaged Wemi "Please look in my nightstand, there's a letter for you". Up she went to check this letter. It was titled "Our Love". After outlining the beauty, strength and passion that had grown, the letter guided her to Dave's dresser to find "Our First Date".

"Our First Date" focused on how nervous Dave was and how much effort he had put in - just to come up short by wearing a wrinkled shirt. Next was "Our First Kiss". This was an important one because it lead back to the moment of ignition. It was the moment when Wemi finally realized, "this could be real". The letters navigated Wemi down to the kitchen for "Our First Meal".

This was a recollection of how terrible a chef Dave was and how much he has grown to share in Wemi's love of food. The final letter was titled "Our First Trip" which described some of the greatest memories shared between the two in such beautiful landscapes.

Meanwhile, it's about 25 minutes later and Dave is still standing in the freezing cold. The last letter informed Wemi to check the garage. Upon opening the door, the doorbell rang. There, with an icicle dangling from his nose, was Dave. He held in his hands flip-cards that read like so:

  • Wemi (please read aloud)
  • I have 20 seconds starting now
  • Filled with courage and bravery
  • Words can't even measure how much I love you!
  • You're flawless in so many ways
  • You're beautiful, you're smart, you're fun, you're kind
  • And you're reading so fast...
  • That I still have 5 seconds to spare
  • * Dave proceeds to profess his love aloud *
  • PLEASE say YES!!

Then Dave got down on one knee - the screams, the tears, the joy was flowing through. He slid the ring on Wemi's finger and August 31st, 2014 has been on their minds ever since.

Mark is simply one of a kind. It's no wonder why Dave is so honoured to have him stand beside him as his best man. From playing "hide and go seek" just to get Reece to scream at the top of his lungs like a little girl; to working what seemed like 19 hour days at the Ex and just wanting to strangle each other; and even all the 3am poker that was played because if you ask Mark - "another game?", you know he's always in.

The bond between these two is exceptionally strong. Every moment they hang out, no matter how often or how seldom, is always filled with laughs... and repeated stories.

One of the few times Dave's mom was actually worried about him was when he came home at 5:30am (having to leave for work by 6:30am). The reason? Mark and Dave were simply having a bro moment. No video games, no drinks, just chattin'.

Matt and Dave have know each other forever. Literally. Meeting on the first day of kindergarten they found they have so much in common and love to compete with each other... Though recently, Matt has taken a commanding lead welcoming his first child this year.

Their relationship has been built on similar goals and values. Minute-math in the early grades, competing for Bird bucks later on and jostling for position atop the class ranks year after year. Even though competition was fierce, it was always friendly.

Matt and Dave share a passion for sports, especially soccer, and Matt was the trusted advisor when Dave split open his eye playing rugby and asked Matt - "How bad is it?". Dave can always rely on Matt's reliable, non-medical opinion.

Even though distance separates them now, they'll always be there for each other during the important stuff.

"Hoy" is a longtime friend who has always been there for Dave. He's simply the type of guy you look for in a friend because he'll always put your needs first. Even something as simple as "Hey Hoy - can I borrow your car" at Mark's wedding - the keys are already in the air without hesitation.

Ryan and Dave met in grade 7 and started building a bond around our passion for sports... and making fun of Mark. The amount of laughs that were shared are simply incomprehendable. Hoy would always keep Dave in stitches, no matter what the occasion.

One of Dave's best memories of Hoy is trying to determine which body of water was located in upstate New York. The whole story cannot be written, but it's well known that a lake was not the answer.

The ironic thing about the relationship between Bryan and Dave is that it could have started a few years earlier. Bryan lived a single floor below Dave in first year university, but it wasn't until later that they actually became friends.

Having a lot in common - it's always a great afternoon to hit the links with Bryan. Dave takes 99% of the credit for Bryan getting his pro card after giving him a run on the back-nine at Hornby Glen.

Bryan's genuine class and good nature makes it really hard to stay mad at him for no longer coming to Dave's (and his own wife Adrienne's) indoor soccer games.

Stephen is one of David's two brothers who has always shared a love of sports (namely hockey and soccer). Though he's a Flames fan for some reason, Dave still looks up to him as a role model of a man he could be.

Without getting too sappy and emotional, Dave also knows that the best ribbing can come from the conversations between the two. In fact, it's not uncommon that a greeting is not actually spoken without one of the two making fun of the other.

Though Dave prides himself on being independent and completely thinks of Stephen as a bit of a momma's boy, he'll always be learning from Stephen in many aspects of life yet to come.

Zachary is Dave's little nephew. He is Dave's sister's oldest son and is a special little guy. If Dave gets any say into how he's raised, he'll be holding a hockey stick and kicking a soccer ball around in no time. If a chance arises, Dave plans to coerce Zachary into a Penguins fan too, but so far he doesn't listen.

Zachary, and little brother Ryan, have been a blessing to the extended Found family and Dave is exceptionally pleased to have Zachary's help on his wedding day.

Arianna and Wemi met on the first day of high school at St. Augustine, they were in the same homeroom math class. Though it wasn't love at first sight, the two women have cultivated an unbreakable bond over the last 11 years. The first time they spoke, Arianna was the girl in brown and black braids wearing the longest Kilt in the class, slowly the two discovered their similarities and values which brought them closer through the first semester of high school.

Arianna and Wemi have been separated by distance through most of their friendship, in their junior year of high school, Arianna moved to Edmonton for the next 3 years, she finally returned to Ontario at which point Wemi was already away in Waterloo for University; despite the several miles that keep them apart physically, their kindred spirits remain close.

Of the many things Arianna owes to Wemi, one of them is that Wemi introduced her to the Love of Her Life on a hot summer day in 2007 and the two lovebirds have been together ever since. Arianna and Wemi have been each other's support system through various challenges and the first call in moments of joy. These two may not always agree on various things but the respect and love they have for each other has kept them strong. Wemi could not imagine having a stronger friend to support her on her wedding day.

Mel was the new girl on the block about 11 years ago. On her second day in the neighbourhood, Mel's mom pulled over and asked Wemi for directions then proceeded to tell Wemi about her daughter Mel who will need new friends in the neighbourhood and city. Immediately, Wemi eagerly and nervously walked down to Mel's house and rang the doorbell, Mel answered the door and Wemi asked if she wanted to go for a walk (seems like a date right?). Mel said yes to this walk and the rest is history.

Wemi wasn't sure how this friendship would go when she learned that Mel was a couple of years younger than her, but that did not stop them. For the next 4 years, these two developed a tight bond and went on many walks around the neighbourhood. Though the two have moved from that neighbourhood since, their friendship remains one of the best things they took with them from Morton Way.

Mel has been a great friend for Wemi, a good listening ear, sometimes a sounding board, no matter what role Mel chooses to play; she has been an irreplaceable friend for the last 11 years.

Lauren and Wemi met on the first day of university at Wilfrid Laurier University in their apartment. Though they were placed in this apartment by random assignment, they couldn't have been a better match. From the many sleepless nights spent studying for exams, complaining about their program and having boy talks; these two spent 3 years living together.

Lauren and Wemi experienced many life changes and many firsts such as Lauren's first time seeing a black woman doing her hair to Wemi's first time eating Matzah. Through their university years, Wemi and Lauren always had different groups of friends but this did not stop them from being each other's confidante at the end of the night and crying in each other's arms after a scary exam or assignment.

Looking back now, they laugh at those moments and realize that it was all worth the degree of friendship they earned with each other. Wemi and Lauren see each other very few times a year but when they do, they love reminiscing and creating new memories together.

Tinesha is one of Wemi's more recent friends but the number of years they have known each other does not measure up to the friendship they have developed in those few years. Wemi and Tinesha were accidental roommates in 2009 and although they lived together for 8 months, they would only exchange pleasantries.

It wasn't until the summer of 2010 when they were both in similar spaces in life when their bond developed via many countless hours of Skype conversations. They would spend each day on Skype, watching independent shows and doing independent things while connected on Skype.

The summer of 2010 was the summer that started their whirlwind friendship. Together, they have been through the ups and downs together; from 4am phone calls in hysteria to 9 hour long phone convos about life to airport stakeouts, their jar of memories run deep but they couldn't be more grateful for those memories.

Ife and Wemi met when Ife was a young nine year old girl. Over the years, Wemi and Ife have come to know each other more and love to reconnect on holidays and special visits. Seeing Ife grow into the beautiful, smart young woman she is today makes Wemi both happy and proud to have Ife as a bridesmaid in her wedding.
